How to Choose What Print Products Are Right For You

Updated: Dec 30, 2023

If you follow my instagram page, you might of seen my recent story about how I lost all my photos of my daughters early childhood. My external hard drive crashed...and just like that they were gone.

In that moment, I breathed a {small} sigh of relief. I had dutifully printed photo books of the first 5 years of my daughter's life. The other 3 {she is eight} years are scattered across social media, iPhones, some weird cloud thing - but most on that hard drive.

I know you are thinking "But you are a professional, surely you would know better?" and yes, you are right. I thought an external hard drive would be enough but apparently it wasn't. It was a turning point and made me realise how something I thought little of became so valuable to me. Pixels to paper is my new mantra.

Your families memories need to be catered and cared for, given the respect they deserve and get out of the cloud and into the physical plane.

I promise you, passing down your old iPhone to your granddaughter saying "don't forget to download and print the professional newborn photos of your mother, I never got around to it and our future generations are counting on you" is not going to cut it. She will also have other things to do and quite simply - your history {and legacy} will be lost.

In my 6 years of working in a commercial photography studio, I learnt a thing or two about printing. Sizes, stocks, frames, what works, what does not.

So, in following my business model which is Keep It Simple Sera I will be adding a few boutique print products to my offerings of 2021. Have a scroll and see what resonates with you...

1. A Hero Product - Something a bit special.

This Signature piece is a fine glass & gold box complete with engraving to house your professionally printed 6x4" fine art prints. I love this piece because as you come back from your newborn photography session, to mama and me milestone photography session, then your family photography or 12 month session and beyond - you can order prints from each session and keep them all together.

A smart way for renters who don't want to put up frames, people who value minimalism around the home and want a beautiful, heirloom quality product to love forever.

2. An Album.

A custom designed, quality album that will last for 100 years and more. With thick cardboard pages that have vibrant printing. Complete with your family name or baby name on the front, I promise you it will be something you - or they will love to look back on.

3. A Matted Frame.

A piece that will suit your lounge, your baby's' nursery or above your bed.

I found working at various other studios that the more options and products that were available, the more confusion and overwhelm was felt. When we are presented with a million different options of something it's often easier to give up and come back to it later. This is the moment that our family photos get lost in the digital abyss.

So I figure why not stick with the basics.

A 20x30" framed print that is perfect for above a couch, a bed and acts as a centerpiece in a room with decent wall space.

A 12x18" framed print is perfect for tighter spaces. Above a dresser in a nursery, on a series of three along a hallway, or on a home office wall space.

An 8x10" framed art piece to fill that space on your mantelpiece or chest of drawers.

4. Fine Art Torn Edge Prints 6x4"

A set of 6x4" prints, beautifully displayed in a beautiful case on fine art bordered paper. The real stuff our own childhood photos were made of. Quality long lasting prints that feel as real as they look beautiful. Fit perfectly in the glass & gold box, or you can frame them in a 5x7" frame (With a Matt).

That's it, and that will do it.

So watch this space while I hunt around from local and international suppliers to find my checklist of awesome-ness to bring into my hands & into your life. Pixels to Paper
