Spotlight on Point Cook - where to take your toddlers after your family photo session!

This shot is everything to a mama.

And honestly, it can be a pretty ... tricky photo to get at the best of times! We know toddlers will always march to the beat of their own drum and if they feel like they like us or want to play - we might be able to get a great shot like this! Mind you the beautiful older bro was around 4 years old and he was so patient with his little brother and so excited to hold him.

In my newborn and family photography sessions here at my Point Cook home studio - I have a pretty good system that will set us all up for a successful photoshoot with toddlers.

First, we start with the absolute important photos - the ones that are most important to you as a family. When their are older siblings the most important photo is usually a sibling photo like this. So, as soon as you come in we get straight to it, because your wee toddler will be excited at their new surrounding and by how silly I am (hopefully!) and thats the only time to really capture this shot - while they are still interested.

Once this is nailed - I like to aim for 2 different poses depending on how your toddler is going then straight into your family photo. Once these 'safe' shots are ticked off I ask that one parent - usually dad or partner who is not breastfeeding take the older bubba out for some fresh air.

In my 9+ years experience as a newborn and family photographer in Melbourne, I know that a restless and bored toddler can lead to you feeling anxious and thats exactly the opposite experience of what I like to create for you at Soul Mama Photography.

The great news is, Point Cook has many great free and fun activities for a fun couple of hours out with your toddler. Here are a couple of my favourite suggestions:

  1. Point Cook Library You don't need a library card to enjoy the relaxing surrounding of the library. Pull up a chair and cuddle into your toddler with a book.

  2. Werribee Open Range Zoo If you are from the other side of town and have a bit of time to kill, check out the awesome Werribee Zoo. Usually I need up to 2 hours to finish the newborn photos so you can plan a short trip just with your toddler or bring two cars and mum and baby can come by one the photos are finished.

  3. Point Cook Coastal Park My daughter and I love to hang out here. There's a beach and beautiful grass and parklands as well as old buildings to explore. Pack some snacks and get some fresh coastal air

  4. Stockland Shopping Centre Give hubby a shopping list and send them down to Stockland to run any errands you might need done. There is a Coles, Aldi, Woolworths, Target, Post Office, Cotton On Kids, Cotton On, Alma Organic Store and way more.

  5. Grilld Point Cook My favourite place - the vegan burger and zucchini chips are amazing! They usually have kids colouring sets and meals - it's a nice environment to feed your toddler and enjoy some hang time together.

  6. Kmart Sanctuary Lakes Affectionately known in my household as 'The Black Hole' you will find this mecca of things you never knew you needed just around the corner from my newborn home studio. There's also Coles, Aldi and other boutique stores as well as a Bon-Bons if you have a sweet tooth!

These are just a few great local activities that will keep your toddler happy while we finish up your newborn session here in Point Cook. While your partner is out and about - you Mama, can enjoy the time with me, cup of tea in hand and your feet up while we create your beautiful newborn baby photos together.

I have weekday spots left for your newborn session in August and September. There certainly is a bit of a baby boom happening at the moment - so get in early to avoid missing out. x
